The Communications Management Plan includes information of the communications receivers in its ‘Reporting’ section, and these communications include the Highlight Sheet. Be careful: In PRINCE2 there is no such thing as a communications strategy.

The whole idea of giving the delegated authority is that, under those boundaries, everybody will get on with the job. The Project Director will plan and get on. It will be expressed in the flow of the activities in the process, and it is the substance of the ‘Take corrective action’ operation. Until setting the action on the train, the Project Manager may take advice but that may not be appropriate. The other response options suggest mandatory participation of others in the handling of each problem and this is simply not valid.

The Checkpoint Report must report lessons to a Group Leader. Team managers do not issue Lesson Reports, nor do they make notes in the Lessons Log, which is the log of the Project Director. Plan Monitoring is mainly concerned with audit work, not active plan work such as lessons gathering.

In this phase (Accepting a Work Package), it is the Team Plan which can be developed. But it’s ‘can’ because it’s optional for team plans.

“Capture” risks is essential, and that’s part of the Risk Register feature. It’s doubtful that complete information will still be available – such as how to handle the risk – but this doesn’t stop the Project Manager setting up the application, which can be augmented with more specifics as they become accessible.

A Team Manager may report the lessons, but this is achieved by placing them on the Checkpoint List, not by producing a Lessons List. In PRINCE2 the Project Manager also provides the Lessons Report. There’s no such thing as a Work Kit Summary and the Highlight Summary is the Project Manager’s progress report to the Project Board.

The Project Manager has no choice but to refer the matter to the Board and do so without hesitation. The tolerances are a strict order from the Project Board – the ‘boss’ of the Project Manager – that should the estimates go beyond the specified limits, then the board must be immediately notified.

It is to be noted that the aim of the Product Delivery Management Process is to monitor the connection between Project Manager and Team Manager(s) by placing formal requirements on accepting, executing and delivering project work.

To serve some useful purpose in managing the stage, the Stage Plan must be kept up-to-date, and therefore actuals are entered when this information arrives from Team Managers in or followed by Checkpoint Reports.

It is found that the process Managing Product Delivery, covers the work of the Team Manager.

It is to be noted that to see ‘where we are now’ before determining if the action falls under the delegated jurisdiction of the Project Manager.

Executing the work package covers the management of the required tests of specialist products.

Typically the client-supplier interface is the boundary between the mechanism Controlling a Stage and Managing Product Distribution. When you have supplier teams, the Managing Material Creation process should include their Group Managers.

The Highlight Report – the progress report produced by the Project Manager on a regular, timed basis and sent to the Project Board and any others who need to see it, as set down in the Communications Management Strategy.

Thus, the Work Package is both an order and an authority to create a single product, or even two or three products, on which working together makes sense. The Work Package will specify that there are three products involved, and it will include copies of the three Product Descriptions.

It is found that the Work Packages are the instruction pack asking a Team Manager to build a product, or more than one if it makes sense to do them together.

The role of the Work Package to define the interface between Stage Controlling and Product Delivery Management. In other words, how it sets out the way the team manager and project manager should work together when a specific part of the job is being completed, such as the progress monitoring criteria.

Controlling the flow of work out to project teams:
• Giving out work assignments (Work Packages) to Team Managers.
• Checking progress on the Work Packages.
• Getting the work back when it’s finished.

The Senior Consumer represents those who will use the deliverables (products) of the project and continue to produce benefits including increased revenue and cost savings.

It is found that quality Assurance is an external, organizational feature of the project.
