For instance, an aged person may have diabetes and at the same time has appendicitis. Diabetes is a chronic illness, while appendicitis is an acute illness.

Many elements affect a person’s health condition, health convictions, and health practices. These elements may be within the individual or outside, and they may not have control over them. A nurse should know how these elements affect both a healthy and ill person and know how to take care of them.

Examples of a lifestyle as a risk factor include; having different sexual relationships that lead to a high risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea. Also, instances with increased stress like divorce or after a person are laid down from work may cause illness or even accident.

Other activities that belong to the tertiary level include rehabilitation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and job training.

Good health at a personal level allows a nurse to act as an example to patients and families. Before nurses give good care to others, they have to ensure their health is good. A nurse with good health not only works efficiently but also encourages and acts as an example to others.

If a family has an experience of cancer, then it means that the other family members are at high risk of getting cancer since it is a major risk factor.
